Corded Hand Mixer
Project Goal
Design a corded hand mixer that solves problems in line with the brand identity of Ninja
Most people find themselves rarely using the hand mixer simply due to the sheer hassle of it all.
By streamlining the process of taking it out, attaching the beaters, plugging it in, using it, cleaning, and reshelving, the hand mixer can become a more frequently used appliance that raises kitchen productivity.
Form Development
After researching the current market for hand mixers, I started with the side profile and recognized that the most successful models used the same basic geometry
I then took a closer look at the driving factor behind Ninja’s popularity in the kitchen appliance market -
Designs that are modular and match the modern home aesthetic make for easy home integration of new technology.

Indexing & Control
Thenar Region Support
The handle features a tapering octagonal profile, with a squared front for easy indexing and a teardrop shaped rear to nest in the palm.
Cord Management & Storage
The freely rotating cord mechanism not only allows for easy retraction for storage, but also acts as a swivel for smooth operation
The “out and away” cord exit allows for the mixer to be rested on its back face for breaks in use.
The first interaction with the mixer is the decision to use it.
The modular 8” × 3” × 8.25” unit is entirely self-contained, and fits nicely into any cabinet for easy unloading, setup, and reshelving.

The Ninja Readi uses a storage dock that snaps on to the body of the mixer, neatly containing the cord and the beaters within it
The dock features geometry to naturally snap together, rear ridges to assist unloading for short users/high cabinets, and slip resistant rubber feet.
Much of the friction surrounding hand mixer use is simply related to hassle - the biggest competitor to the hand mixer is the readily available fork.
